Simple Voice Changing Experiments

  1. Use a toilet paper roll, a paper towel tube , or gift wrap tube and cover one end with wax paper (preferably) or foil and secure with a rubber band to make a kazoo type voice changer.

  2. Turn on a portable fan and speak through it to alter your voice.

  3. Take a helium balloon and inhale some of the helium to change your voice dramatically.

  4. If you have Microsoft Windows XP, click on START, go to ALL PROGRAMS, go to ACCESSORIES, then go to ENTERTAINMENT, and click on the voice recorder. If you have a microphone you can record your voices and then add echo, decrease speed, reverse, etc for playback. Kids have a blast with this.

  5. Call each other on the telephone and crumple up paper next to the phone as you talk to create the impression of static on the phone. (I still do this when my husband tries to tell me the SF Giants won the LA Dodgers!)
