How to Make a Piņata
"But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15

  • 2 cups flour + 3 cups of water mixed together to form a paste
  • Balloon
  • Newspaper strips (1 inch thick by however long)
  • Paint or Markers
  • Colored crepe paper (additional but adds the realistic touch)
  • String

Blow up the balloon and tie it closed. Dip the newspaper strips in the paste mixture and plaster onto the balloon. Make sure to cover the entire balloon, only leaving a small hole on top to load with candy when completed. Cover the paste with plastic wrap to keep gooey until ready to add additional layers.

After the first layer dries begin the second layer. Again let it dry and then put on the third layer. When the third layer is completely dry, it is time to pop the balloon and remove it carefully.

Paint your piņata bright colors and add strips of crepe paper if desired. Carefully make two small holes on the top near the hole and lace a string through it by which to hang it later on.

Fill your piņata with candy or other goodies. You can add more newspaper strips inside to help separate the goodies. Then close up the hole when completed with more newspaper and glue or crepe paper. Hang by the string up in the air and time to swing a stick!
