(Ready to eat pudding with our hands tied shows us along with the Tower of Babel our need to depend upon God.)  

The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to architect our family on Jesus Christ.  

Going through the Bible with your family…  

Weekly Scripture:
Genesis 11:1-9  

Story:
“The Tower of Babel ”  

Application:
Learn to depend on God, instead of having pride in being independent.  

Summary: 
After the Flood, Noah’s sons had families and replenished the earth. Everybody spoke the same language. The people began to forget about God again and no longer placed their trust in Him. The people decided to build a big city with a high tower that would reach up into heaven. They thought this would prove how strong and important they were. But God did not want them living in pride, as He knew it would lead them further and further from Him. God confused their language and they scattered about the face of the earth. The place this happened was called “ Babel ,” which means “confusion.”  

Focus: 
That God calls all of us to depend on Him, not put trust in ourselves.  

Finding Christ:
At the Tower of Babel we see the Trinity confuse their language and drive them away because they were not seeking God, at Pentecost we see that because of Christ sending the Holy Spirit…that people began seeking God again as they heard each in their own language the plan of salvation.  

Live the Lesson: 
Gather your children for dessert with empty bowls and spoons set on the table. Then explain to them that tonight they each have to have their hands and feet bound and figure out how to eat their dessert. Of course the automatic thought will be that they will eat “piggy” style with their mouths into their bowls. That is until you bring out prepackaged ready-to-eat puddings with their foil lids still intact. Place a closed pudding into each bowl and tell them what a great favor you are doing them by putting it into the bowl so it won’t scoot as easily off the table. Now they have to solve how to get that pudding opened and into their mouths.  

How long will it take them to realize that asking you to open it and even feed it to them would make life so much easier than struggling to do something they either cannot do at all or cannot do effectively? After they understand they need to depend on you in this situation for help…explain to them that God too wants us to depend on Him instead of trying to do everything for ourselves. He has a plan we just need to depend on Him.  

Memory Verse: 
“In You, O Lord, I put my trust.”  Psalm 71:1  

Prayer: 
Dear Lord, please help us to depend upon You in all things.  

Living the Life: 
This week talk to the children about the differences between being independent and dependent upon God would mean and look for examples in real life.
