(A black heart turns red to show us with Aaron and
the Israelites not to grumble against God.)
The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to
architect our family on Jesus Christ.
Going
through the Bible with your family…
Weekly
Scripture:
Numbers 16 & 17
Story:
“Aaron’s Rod”
Application:
We should not grumble, but rather have thankful hearts.
Summary:
Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and On along with 250 other men rebelled against the
leadership of Moses and Aaron. Hey wanted to be the leaders instead of Moses
and Aaron, because they did not believe God had chosen these two men to lead
His people. Moses cried out to the Lord. God was very angry with the
rebellious men. He caused the earth to swallow alive Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
Then the other 250 men were killed by fire as they offered incense to the
Lord. But the people grumbled again against Moses and Aaron, so the Lord
brought a plague upon them. But Moses commanded Aaron to burn incense between
the plague and the people. So the Lord stopped the plague after it had killed
over 14,000 of those who grumbled. Then the Lord said He would choose the
leader who would approach Him. Moses asked each of the heads of the 12 tribes
to bring rods (made of dead wood) to the tabernacle. The next day they found
that Aaron’s rod had blossomed and produced almonds. This was God’s sign
that Aaron was the chosen leader.
Focus:
To discourage our children to be grumblers and to encourage our children
to have grateful hearts towards God and those who care for them.
Finding
Christ:
We find that just as Jesus was dead and was resurrected to be our
continual High Priest, so was Aaron’s dead rod brought to life again as a
sign of Aaron be chosen as God’s High Priest.
Live
the Lesson:
This week you will print out and cut the heart pattern as shown here: www.familyblueprint.org/heart_pattern.htm
Have your children draw this pattern onto black or gray construction paper
and again on red or white construction paper. Glue the two heart patterns
together, back to back and let dry. Then fold the two outer edges of the black
heart side toward the center of the red, so that it makes a completely black
heart on both sides. Discuss with them this is how our heart becomes when we
grumble against God. But when we repent and speak with gratefulness out heart
becomes cleansed again and then turn the heart the opposite way to make both
sides of the heart appear red.
Memory
Verse:
“Do not grumble against one another.” James
5:9
Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help us not to grumble against You or others. Help us to
have grateful hearts in all things.
Living
the Life:
This week discuss with your children what the difference is between
grumbling and speaking the truth in love. Help them understand how to show
gratefulness to God and others.
