Application:
Obey God even when the results are not as we planned!
Summary:
Moses along with Aaron approached Pharaoh to make request for God’s
people to be set free from slavery. Pharaoh not only refused, but then made
the tasks of the Israelites even harder. In turn the Israelites became angry
at Moses. Moses continued to obey God even though each time he asked Pharaoh
to let God’s people go, Pharaoh would respond with "No." God
continued to bring plagues upon Egypt, but none of these plagues affected the
Hebrews, nor did they change Pharaoh’s mind, but rather hardened his heart.
The final plague brought death to every first-born son in Egypt, unless the
angel of death found the blood of the lamb, then he passed over that home.
Pharaoh then decided to let God’s people go!
Focus:
We should obey God no matter the results we see. Obedience is to please
God, not get what we want.
Finding Christ:
Moses delivers the children of Israel to freedom, so Christ is the one who
delivers us to freedom. (Acts
7:35; John
8:36)
Live the Lesson:
Tell your children that tonight you are having "root beer
floats" for your devotional time. Take a big bowl or bucket and fill it
with enough water to cover a can of coke or root beer. Place a can of diet
coke or diet root beer in the bucket and watch the results. The can should
float if done properly. Now have them take the can of regular coke or regular
root beer and tell them to "Let My Root Beer Float!" just as Moses
told Pharaoh to "Let My People Go." When they put the root beer in
and it sinks to their surprise, add a plague to the water represented by salt.
Continue to tell them "Let My Root Beer Float!" Each time they add
the can it should still sink for a time as you keep adding the plagues of
salt. Tell them to keep obeying even though they cannot see the result they
want! Finally for the final plague, pour in a LOT of salt and stir well. This
time when they are commanded to "Let My Root Beer Float!" it will!!!
Ask your children if they enjoyed their special treat of "Root Beer
Floats" in a teasing manner, then pull out the ice cream and cold root
beer and celebrate the victory of your root beer floating with a tasty root

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help me to obey you even when I cannot see the results I
expect. Help me to be more concerned with pleasing you with obedience than
having my own way.
Living the Life:
This week look for times when you obey and the result is not what you
hoped for. Do you trust the Lord and obey anyhow? Why?
