Backsliding or carnality is when a believer turns back to sin or becomes stubborn in his or her heart towards the will of God in their life. Sometimes it is brought on by laziness in the diligence to seek out God through His Word on a faithful basis and thus never maturing. Backsliding begins in the heart and mind and then finds expression through actions contrary to the Word of God. These actions are really just symptoms of the heart attitude. Pride and rebellion are often roots to these issues as well as one living with SELF on the throne of their life instead of God. Often when a person is in this state, they cannot see this clearly. Pray for the enemy to be bound away from this person and for this person to be clothed in the armor of God. Pray for the spiritual blinders to be removed and that God would give them eyes that can see and ears that can hear the TRUTH.

Scriptures to pray for the person:

Luke 15: 17-18 Lord I recall the Scripture of the Prodigal son in the Bible. It says “But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.’ And he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him, and kissed him.” Lord I ask that just as the prodigal son came to his senses, that _______ will also come to their senses. I pray they will realize the bread they are hungry for is Your Living Word. Father give them the desire to return to You and confess they have sinned and find that You are that compassionate Father who runs to Your children with open arms. None of us deserves your mercy or has earned Your grace and I know that _____ needs it just as much as I do Lord.

Romans 2:4 Lord I pray that _____ would not think lightly of the riches of Your kindness and forbearance and patience, but that _____would come to a true understanding of Your kindness that leads them to repentance.

Psalm 51:17  Lord I ask that You in your wisdom and mercy would give _____ a broken spirit as a sacrifice to You. Please give _____ a broken and a contrite heart, O God, that You will not despise them, but forgive them and restore them to Yourself.

Psalm 51:10 Lord please create within ______ a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within them. Do not cast _____ away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from them. Restore to _____ the joy of Your salvation and sustain them with a willing spirit that they may live to serve You only.

Hosea 2:6,7  Lord I know that You loved Israel so much that when she rebelled against you, You “hedged up her way with thorns and you built a wall against her so that she could not find her paths by using the example of Hosea and Gomer. She would pursue her lovers but she would not overtake them. She would seek them, but would not find them. Then she would say, ‘I will go back to my first husband, for it was better for me then, than now.’” Lord I ask You do the same for ______, as I know You love them too. Please hedge _____’s way in with thorns and build a wall against them so that they cannot find their paths. If _____ would pursue anything they have placed in their heart over You, do not allow them to overtake them. If they seek them, do not let them find them. Please bring ______ to the realization of how much better it is to return to You, their first love!

Matthew 10:26  Lord you said there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. I ask that You would reveal to ______ that You know everything they are trying to cover, and make known to them that they cannot hide from You Lord.

Proverbs 28:13 Lord you said in your Word that he who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. Oh Lord, please grant _____ the will to confess and forsake their transgressions against You that they may find compassion with You to be restored in righteousness. Lord let them turn away from evil that they may prosper to serve Your purposes.

Daniel 4 Lord just as Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged you in the beginning of the fourth chapter of Daniel as the Most High God, but then Nebuchadnezzar began to fall into sin and Daniel warned him to “break away now from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor.”  Nebuchadnezzar refused to heed the warning and continued to allow sin to dominate him until pride filled his heart and he turned away from You. Lord, you were faithful to humble him by allowing him to go through horrendous circumstances until his right mind came back to him. Then he repented and worshipped you. Lord please work whatever it requires to lead ________ to praise, exalt and honor You, the King of heaven, for all Your works are true and Your ways just. You are able to humble _______ who is walking in pride, just as You humbled Nebuchadnezzar.
