(***Warning to husbands: If you must pay somebody to remind you...DO IT! This is one of the few dates YOU MUST REMEMBER!***) Anniversary Traditions Table BelowMore often than not, wedding anniversaries are shared quietly between couples in a clandestine setting. These special occasions should always be started with a time of prayer and thankfulness to God for the other spouse within their hearing. What a wonderful opportunity for a husband to quote Proverbs 31 to his wife or declare Exodus 21 "I love my Master, my wife, and my children and I do not want to go out a free man!" Anniversaries marking major milestones, however, like the 25th or 50th anniversary, are commonly celebrated with dear family and friends. They often include a special ceremony such as the reenactment of the marriage or the renewal of wedding vows in the same church or your current home church. The first anniversary is usually celebrated with the couple eating a piece of their original wedding cake and possibly reliving the smearing of the cake on the face. If this is eaten in private you now have the option as to how to clean the cake off your spouse that you did not have at your public reception. As a rule this piece is frozen after the reception and saved for this occasion. Any piece will suffice, but on tiered cakes the top tier is usually saved. With a little creativity a couple could design their own unique anniversary gift list based on their walk with God and each other. What a lovely tradition to hand down to your children in the years to come. For instance, the 1st year is either paper of clocks. You could buy a clock with a verse of inspiration on it or personalize a Bible to your spouse. Keeping God first in your marriage can be a resourceful endeavor with wonderful dividends!
