You have scoured the
telecommuting ads and something within keeps impelling you to be an
entrepreneur. Desire to establish your own business persists in
tickling you, save for you cannot seem to fathom what you could
execute. You can sign up with a direct sales company or you may
possibly literally create your own company. At this moment is the
time to catalog all of your uniquely, personal assets:
-
List
all the “what I want to be when I grow up” ideas
that you can recall. Did you want to be a police detective, a
meteorologist, and what else?
-
List
all your hobbies. Remember everything from hiking to
collecting seashells at the beach, from scrapbooking to reading
the books about the Bible.
-
List
all your social strengths and weaknesses. Such as “I
like to talk to people one on one, but I don’t enjoy standing
up in front of crowds.”
-
List
all your previous jobs, job skills, volunteer skills,
mothering (or fathering) or wife (or husband) skills, etc. “I
can organize 20 first graders and their parents to pull off a
Christmas party.”
-
List
all the things you enjoy doing. Continue this through the
next week. Every time you see something that you really like,
such as candles, potpourri, fragrance, purses, hats, spices,
etc…put it down on this list. "I like modeling hats
for my children when we go out shopping."
-
List
all your activities. “I go to church on Saturday night
for worship practice.”
-
List
all the places you visit at least once a month. “I went
by the bank and the printers.”
-
List
all your relatives and friends.
-
List
the things that inspire you or motivate you. (My mentor at
church, my children, my husband)
-
List
the order in which you enjoy your five senses (touch,
hearing, tasting, seeing, and smelling). By each of those things
then list what things you can recall that really evoke each of
those senses to pleasure. For example next to touch you might
list “running my fingers up and down the silk edge on
blankets.”
When this inventory is completed, study it
several times. Pray over it, petitioning the Lord to guide you into
His plan and unlock your innovative intellect He has bestowed upon
you. Take pen to paper and begin brainstorming for business ideas
that become you.
Not sure how to brainstorm? Here are some
guidelines:
-
Do
not quench your concepts, as in thinking any idea is too
ridiculous.
-
Write
down every idea from small to big, cheap to expensive.
-
What
relaxes you? If you can find a place and way to relax, your
mind will come up with more pictures. Build upon each picture.
Focus on it. Get excited with it.
-
What
could you improve? Many people make a living off selling a
better version or a more customized version of something in
abundance.
-
If
you could make an income doing something you enjoyed, what
would it be? Now how could you enhance that? Is there an
approach building this into a useful service or product?
-
Give
all of your lists to three people you trust. Ask them if
they have any imaginings to add? Tell them no idea is incorrect,
you want every notion they can envision, whether it seems genius
or absurd to them.
-
Take
your previous list and their recent lists and continue
brainstorming.
Did you come up with an idea that excites you?
Continue developing it. The next step we will discuss in the article
“How to Plot Your New Concept” to see if it is viable option for
you.
